How to Win, Lose or Draw

Principle

The system allows many different ways for games to be completed.  Players are encouraged to be familiar with these methods, as it may be their responsibility to take action.  If in doubt, please communicate with the TD, or TC for team events, in good time.

Practice

  1. The system can automatically detect certain conditions, including checkmate and stalemate.

  2. Players may agree to a result, including:

    - resignation (by using the Resign check box before you click Submit ; refer How to Play Moves)
    - draw (by using the Offer Draw and Accept Draw check boxes before you click Submit; refer How to Play Moves)

  3. A player may claim a result via the TD (refer How to Communicate with Officials), for example:

    - win (if, say, the opponent has exceeded the time limit or taken more than 40 days for his last move)
    - draw (if, say, a threefold repetition or the 50-move rule has occurred)

  4. The TD may award results, for example:

    - win/loss (if, say, a claim is upheld)
    - draw (if, say, a position is adjudicated equal)
    - 0-0 (if, say, both players are in breach of rules)
    - other (defaulted, null and cancelled games)

  5. A player may appeal against an award via the AC (refer How to Communicate with Officials), resulting in the original decision being:

    - rejected (the original decision is ratified)
    - upheld (the original decision is changed, and the game may be restarted)

Webserver Actions

The system marks games as completed once a result is finalized. The system automatically stops a game if a player exceeds the reflection time, but will not enter a result. The game needs to be claimed by the opponent, before the TD can manually enter the result. The system will not automatically stop a game if a player takes more than 40 days to respond, players need to be alert of this infraction and claim the game to the TD.

Games are removed from players' games lists once they have Closed the game.

An email is generated to notify the result, and sent to the players, TD and Team Captains in team events.
